THE BEACH SURVIVAL KIT |
|||
Australian beaches are among the most beautiful in the world and so it is no wonder we all love to get down to the coast whenever we can. Active families are healthy families so a day outdoors should always be a priority. However, there are some things to remember before setting out, especially if you have children.With careful planning, a basic survival kit and some common sense, a day at the beach with children can be both rewarding and memorable. Firstly, check whether the beach is appropriate for the age of your children. In other words, is it known for big swells and rips or is it safe enough for toddlers to paddle at the shore? Are there lifeguards on duty? Is it a family-friendly beach? Secondly what are the facilities like? Does it have change rooms and toilets for those necessary visits children make? Is there a grassed area or shade if the going gets too hot? Thirdly, consider taking a first aid kit. Whether it be insect or jellyfish stings, cuts from sharp reef or even burns from hot sand, always have the necessary items for immediate assistance. Have a check through the following list prior to departure and, with a little preparation, you will find that your day at the beach will be full of great times and wonderful memories. SURVIVAL KIT • sunscreen (at least 15 SPF preferably 30+) • lip balm and aloe after sun lotion • first aid kit • sun hat with brim • sunglasses • beach umbrella or alternative shade • chairs or blanket • bucket and spade for sandcastles • a lightweight ball or frisbee • goggles or masks • plastic jar for collecting shells • towels (and extras) • plenty of bottled water • healthy snacks such as fruit or vegetable sticks • a change of clothing and footwear • water/swim shoes • waterproof disposable camera By Joanna Robertson |
